Getting to the parking spaces was a real challenge, so good luck with that drive. Once inside, though, everything felt welcoming. The CLAPCLAP Hotel lobby has a little café that doubles as the check-in and check-out desk, with lots of places to sit and, to me, a lovely popcorn smell. We got our key cards quickly, and the staff were very friendly and fun to chat with. They even gave us plates, cutlery and napkins when we took food from a nearby restaurant outside to eat. My family and I were just stopping over for one night on the way to Italy, and our stay in Strasbourg was really pleasant. I'd recommend it to people passing through or on holiday here.

The breakfast was wonderful, and the staff were very friendly. The rooms were adequate for our two-night stay, and the hotel was well placed for visiting attractions.

The rooms are small and there isn't a closet, but the service and location more than make up for that. It's close to Petite France and the historic center of Strasbourg, and an easy walk from the train station. A very nice hotel with excellent service.

We paid nearly 300 euros per room, per night, including extra for a “Star Room” advertised with a balcony, but never got one. Reception later said you have to specifically request a balcony even after paying for the Star Room, which was never explained when we booked. We then learned there are only three Star Rooms with balconies, and we didn't even get to see one. For all the problems, the only compensation offered was a cheap bottle of wine, despite this being a birthday trip. The whole stay was deeply disappointing. The first room was dark and nothing like the photos. Then a woman entered with a key that opened our room, because it had been double-booked. We were moved four times. One room was so tiny and smelled so bad it was hard to breathe. Another had barely working lights, a shower that flooded the bathroom, poor heating, and noise from neighboring rooms that made sleep impossible. The last room was barely acceptable, with another broken shower and stained, dirty sheets. We didn't bother telling reception about the sheets after so many other issues. Breakfast was also a mess. Reception told us it ran until 11:00, but on Mondays it actually ended at 10:30, which nobody mentioned. When we arrived at 10 am on Monday, almost no food was left. The young woman working breakfast was rude and argued when we raised it. She called the manager, who brought a small omelet and a few extra strips of bacon. We thanked them, but that didn't undo how uncomfortable and let down we already felt. The internet wasn't working either, and the cleaner knocked, then opened our door without waiting for an answer. Reception staff were nice and friendly, but that couldn't make up for what felt like a disgrace of a hotel. Please avoid it if you want to spare yourself a frustrating, unpleasant experience.

The location is ideal for getting to the Christmas markets, restaurants, shops and many other sights. The staff were really friendly and helpful with everything we needed. I was torn between three and four stars, but gave four because I think we overpaid due to the season. We booked well ahead, and the stay still felt overpriced for what the hotel offers. The usual rates under 100 euros a night seem fair. The rooms are basic, which might be fine on a budget, but felt pretty sparse for the roughly 300 euros a night we paid. We had just two very flat pillows. There was body wash but no shampoo, or conditioner, though that seems typical here. If you're tall or large, the hotel may not be comfortable, especially the bathrooms. Ours was extremely cramped, with hardly any legroom by the toilet, and the tiny shower was set up so water spilled everywhere. The location really is perfect, but adjust your expectations, especially if you're taller than average.
