Hotel Victoria

I was extremely disappointed and would never stay here again. The room under the roof was unbelievably small, about 2x2m, with no window or ventilation. The bathroom was so narrow that the door wouldn’t close. It was exhausting to haul heavy suitcases up to the 5th floor because the elevator only goes to the 3rd. The female receptionist also demanded extra money to keep my luggage for one more hour, something I’ve never come across at a hotel before. A truly terrible experience. :(((

The bed was comfortable and firm, just how we like it, and the room was a good size by European standards, where rooms are often smaller than in many countries. Service was good. I’m not sure whether the rate includes breakfast for one person as standard or whether it was part of the stay, since my wife made the reservation. The second person definitely has to pay. Breakfast is basically continental, with no buffet of meats and fruit. We like staying near central train stations and restaurants and shops, and this hotel was close to all of those. It meant we could walk from the station with our luggage.

Breakfast was exceptional. The staff were all very friendly, and our room was comfortable and peaceful, overlooking a quiet street despite the central location. It’s perfectly placed for walking into the city.

My wife and I stayed overnight in early November while passing through the Alsace region. The hotel is simple and compact, but very well located. It’s excellent for a night in transit, though I wouldn’t use it as a home base. I do have one complaint: the wall-mounted shower head is absolutely unusable, so you have to hold it in your hand. It seems they don’t personally test their facilities :-)
