We were only looking for somewhere to stop on our way north, but ended up finding a place we wanted to linger. Christophe let us choose any pitch, and we picked a roomy, level one overlooking the lake and donkeys in the field. The quiet, friendly atmosphere was the best we've had on campsites across Europe since 2005, and the prices felt very fair compared with some less pleasant sites we've used this year. We stayed three nights instead of one. Vero cooked a lovely meal at the restaurant, where the menu has plenty of choice, and we liked sitting outside as the sun went down over the pool. As British guests, we were treated with nothing but politeness and helpfulness, so the negative comments we'd read beforehand were hard for us to understand. We plan to return next year and see more of the local sights.

Our boys, who are 6 and 9, had football and a play area to keep them busy, and the caravan park looked like it had plenty more to do. The beer was reasonably priced, and we enjoyed the food too. We've owned a property across from camping le Verdoyant for three years, but avoided the bar and restaurant after reading a review claiming the owners didn't like English people. During our last three weeks here, we went to the bar about eight times and ate there twice. The owners were polite and helpful, and I'm glad we gave it a try. It was nice joining the French holidaymakers. Worth a visit.

The pitch was spacious, with plenty of shade, but our stay felt very uncomfortable. The owner was rude to my wife more than once, and we felt unwelcome. Someone on site told us he didn't like the English, and we noticed there were flags for different countries but no Union Jack. We tried to find another campsite, but everywhere was full. The pool has no shallow section, so it doesn't work well for small children. The toilet and shower block was also unpleasant. I wouldn't choose this site again.

It feels like a calm, green oasis. There's a pool to swim in, spots for fishing, and good food made by Véro, who is both a co-owner and the chef. The lovely couple Véro and Christophe own and run the place.
