Hôtel Saint-Philibert

A central spot with comfortable rooms, prices to suit different budgets, and friendly, professional staff.

We booked at short notice with our two young children, and the hotel was very accommodating, providing a good-quality cot and a quadruple room. It's a lovely town to explore during a one-night stop on the way back to the UK. The hotel is great value, with a friendly team, good breakfast and a great location.

Our room smelled strongly of cigarettes, which was very hard to tolerate as a non-smoker travelling with small children. I politely but firmly asked for another room, and was told to open the window. That wouldn't remove the smell from the curtains, carpets and sheets, especially with it 36degrees Celsius outside. They said no other room was available. We'd told the hotel on arrival that we planned to have breakfast there, but changed our plans 20 minutes later and asked them to cancel it. The response was an angry “next time we should book somewhere else.” Sure, we will.

The location worked really well for us, close to the cathedral, shops, and restaurants. We stayed for seven days and were happy with the place, especially for the reasonable price. The owner and her assistant were friendly and helpful, and the Wi-Fi and bathroom were fine. The room was small and plain, but that didn't bother us. Breakfast was okay, with especially good croissants and baguette, though there were no cooked options. It's on a busy street, so ask for a room at the back if traffic noise might bother you. There was no air conditioning, but a fan kept things comfortable most of the time. We found free parking across the street without trouble, and there's another free lot behind the hotel by the RR Station. The building is old and could probably use some work inside and out, but it was basically fine.
