Mercure Tours Nord

The room was huge, and the restaurant food was very good, but our four-day stay was disappointing because renovations were going on and it was really loud. We weren't told before booking, and there was no construction notice on the map or website, so it was hard to know the hotel was under renovation. The girl at reception said they were supposed to email us, but we booked through Booking.com and couldn't get an email. The air conditioning worked for heating, though it made the room very dry. They only provided one bottle of water each day, even though there were two of us.

The location works if you're stopping over, and parking is free. Breakfast was good enough, and reception staff were nice and polite. But this definitely isn't a four star hotel as it stands; it needs a full refurbishment to reach that standard. Reception told me the refurbishment would happen in October. The sofa bed was a complete disaster and I couldn't sleep, and the air vents were dusty. For what we paid, it wasn't good value. I think you could get the same quality of sleep at the nearby Ibis Budget for less.

We arrived at about 7 pm on 16 Aug, after driving from the South of France towards Calais, expecting to stop overnight in Tours. My friend and I are both single guys, and our reservation explicitly requested two beds. At check-in, they told us we'd have to share a double bed. When we objected, we got a shrug and were told there was nothing they could do, but we could cancel for a refund. They said they didn't speak English very well. There was no camp bed offered and no help finding another room, despite it being late in the day. This was a horrific experience. For a four star hotel, the service should have been better. They didn't seem to care at all.

Breakfast was good and plentiful. This was adequate for a one night stop on a long trip, with large car parks, though the bays themselves were small. The EV charging was out of order, so we had to go elsewhere, which was inconvenient since that facility was why we chose this stop.
