Hôtel Vendôme

The beds are quite small, though they’re fine if you’re under 1.80 meters. We found breakfast a bit overpriced for what you get, with no eggs or croissant, for example. It’s a nice little hotel with comfortable, clean rooms and very friendly owners.

A charming older couple run this lovely little hotel, which is fairly central in Tours. It has a very old, typically French shabby chic feel. The spiral wooden staircase would be difficult for anyone with walking problems.

The location is good, very close to the train station and good restaurants, but that was about it. The room had old furniture, very old sheets and towels that had gone grayish, and a rusty shower door. The soap and even the room smelled very strange. The Wi-Fi barely worked, with a very poor signal. When we arrived, the host canceled the reservation and we lost the booking benefit. I explained how he could fix it, but he simply refused. We asked many times for an invoice and he didn’t provide one. Half the building has only walls and a roof.

I wish I’d read all the reviews and booked somewhere else. The hotel is old and poorly maintained, and the garden renovations made it feel like an obstacle course to get around. I wasn’t convinced the sheets or towels were clean, and the place generally felt grubby. There was a kitchen in our room but no equipment, so there was no point having one we couldn’t use. I guess you pay for what you get.
