La Bastide De Tourtour & Spa Hôtel

Breakfast on the terrace under the canopy, taken slowly in the early morning with such attentive service, was one of the most memorable parts of my stay. The staff throughout were professional, friendly, and efficient. I was there for two nights in late May, on a solo road trip. My room was on the small side, as I knew when booking, and that suited me fine. The hotel sits above the surrounding countryside, with lovely grounds and terraces, and it’s only a short walk from the pretty village centre. It’s an attractive building, especially the west-facing entrance. I had dinner at the hotel once. The menu was limited, with, I think, two choices per course. The food felt more like straightforward home cooking than restaurant or gastronomic cuisine. I’m happy to have a simple meal some evenings while travelling, and like to alternate, so that worked for me. There are also several other places to eat in the village.

The setting is fabulous, but lunch was a bit of a letdown. The food didn’t seem up to the standard I remembered from a few years ago, and the restaurant staff weren’t especially welcoming.

The food is fairly priced for what you get, though the dishes are a little simple and the presentation was disappointing. What really spoiled it was the service, which felt rushed and close to rude, mostly unfriendly. I haven’t had an experience like that in many years, especially at a hotel restaurant. We were also given incorrect information about bringing our dog, and our reserved window table was changed to one inside the room. We won’t be returning.

We’ve stayed here twice and plan to come back next year. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is excellent, and if you want a change, there are other great places just a short walk into the village. A delightful hotel.
