Hôtel De Troyes

We used Hotel de Troyes as a stop on the way to Provence and were very pleasantly surprised by the value. A friendly, helpful staff member welcomed us and gave us tips on where to park and eat. Our room was cleaned to a high standard, the air conditioning worked well, and the firm, good-quality queen-size mattress was comfortable. Breakfast was a nicely laid-out French spread of cereal, pastries, bread, fruit, cheese and meats. The Wi-Fi was excellent too, much better than what I’ve used in UK hotels, despite some earlier reviews suggesting otherwise. Troyes itself is beautiful, with medieval architecture, timber-framed buildings and lots of restaurants and brasseries. It’s about a five-minute drive to the centre, where there’s plenty of parking. A great place to stay for a stopover or a longer visit. Merci beaucoup guys, keep up the good work.

For a reasonably priced room in Troyes, with parking included, friendly service and the beautiful centre about a 30-minute walk away, this place ticks the boxes.

We booked two rooms, one for two people and one for three. The woman at reception was very polite and helpful, and the staff tried hard throughout. The hotel has private parking, which is a plus, but it really needs proper investment to bring it up to standard. The two-person room on the ground floor smelled overwhelmingly of damp and chemicals, presumably used to deal with the damp. We asked to move, and staff sorted that without any problem; the room on the first floor was fine. The room for three was cramped, had only two towels, a barely working shower and a broken shower enclosure.

For a two-star hotel, this is a very decent place. The beds and bedroom were good, there’s fenced parking, and the staff were friendly. I also appreciated being able to check out at 11.30.
