The garden and pool made it feel like we had our own little castle, and the king-size bed deserves a special mention. We spent a week here with friends and loved it. Marianne is so warm and welcoming, and really goes out of her way to make you feel at home. It’s wonderfully quiet, just right for relaxing. There’s also a great restaurant a three-minute walk away that Marianne recommended. We definitely recommend staying here!

We’d be very happy to come back. The cottage is charming, with really comfortable beds, and the house, garden, and pool are beautiful. Having a newly opened restaurant right at the end of the garden was especially handy with small children. One suggestion for very hot weather: air conditioning in the bedrooms at night would help, since the house is hard to cool during a week above 35 degrees. Mosquito nets would also be useful. Otherwise, it was a five-star stay in lovely surroundings.

The location is wonderfully convenient: the supermarket for fresh bread is just around the corner, about a two-minute walk, and we could walk to cafe Vin val D'age for wine, local food, and tapas. We spent a week in the tastefully renovated 'Intendant's Pavilion' with our two children, aged 10 and 12. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The pool is in the beautiful garden of the House, where it’s easy to imagine life there hundreds of years ago. Domaine de Montlaur feels like a little pearl in Montlaur, a village of 437 residents. Madame Niermans, the owner and host of the Gites, made us feel so welcome. She was helpful, friendly, and interesting to talk with, and had ideas for trips and truffles. We absolutely recommend this place, including for inspiration.

The people of Montlaur were so friendly and welcoming, and Marianne’s guidebook tips made our stay feel even more personal. We especially enjoyed the regional markets and Thursday evening pizzas in Montlaur’s market square. We spent two weeks at The Cottage, and its garden and the surrounding estate felt like paradise. It was so peaceful that we could hear leaves rustling, birds singing, and church bells every half hour. For those of us used to a busy city, it was a real treat for the senses.

The nearby village is charming, varied, and authentic, and its location makes it a great base for exploring the region. Back at this historic manor, the estate is wonderfully peaceful, a real place to recharge. It’s an authentic stay in a special setting, and I highly recommend it.
