Hotel Campanile Saint Etienne Centre - Villars

The room felt dirty and unsafe, and smelled awful, like mildew and cigarette smoke. It's right by the road, so it's very noisy. There was no elevator, and we had to haul our luggage upstairs ourselves. The smell and the shower were so bad I wanted to keep my shoes on. I got up at 9 a.m. to charge my phone and was naked when someone walked straight into our room, waking my fiancé. I was standing there without clothes. And the sheer curtains meant people walking past could see right into our room, with our things all out. Overnight, it was hot, humid and sticky, and we tossed and turned. It smelled like mouldy carpet, the AC barely worked, and the pillows were so flat that even using two wouldn't lift my head much. The worst night's sleep. I'm changing my rating from two stars to one.

The restaurant was spacious and pleasant, though the food was disappointingly average and the serving staff seemed stretched, so the wait was long. Our room was clean, with a nice big double bed and a good mattress. Getting a suitcase up the steep stairs to the first floor wasn't easy.

The team was well led, and the service was excellent. We had the best night with my family. I'd definitely come back and highly recommend staying here if you're unsure.

Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The beds were uncomfortable, and the rooms right on the street were really noisy. The food was industrial, every dish microwaved and overpriced. I've stayed in remote places, but never seen a hotel like this. Highly not recommended.
