Hôtel La Villa Patricia

A nice little hotel just outside Nice, with great restaurants and beaches in either direction. It has air conditioning, showers, WiFi, and a small outdoor pool and jacuzzi, plus a relaxing area if you want it. Breakfast is a traditional French affair. The car park is a bit tight. I had a 4x4, but it’s better suited to smaller cars. All good for what you need, and it’s easy to get into Nice by bus.

The room seemed like good value at first, but you quickly realize everything is à la carte. Breakfast was fine, but not included, and there isn’t much nearby as an alternative. The host also didn’t come across as forthcoming or respectful. At 10pm on our second night, our room lost all power because of a major electrical problem, also mentioned in another review. We had no air conditioning and the bathroom was pitch black. We slept with the windows open, got bitten by bugs, and were constantly jolted by passing trains. The hotel is right beside the tracks, so you need to keep the windows closed to sleep, and even then, anyone sensitive to noise will hear trains at night. The host said she’d fix the power the next day, a Sunday, and said it was hard for the electrician to get parts. But when we got back from the beach Sunday evening, it still wasn’t fixed. She asked if we wanted to find another hotel, and we said yes. We spent our nice dinner looking for somewhere else, then I had to pack in the dark by flashlight after we finally found a place in Nice with availability. It was 11pm, and we were packing in a sweltering room to move in the middle of the night. When I finished and went to settle the bill, the host said I had to pay the full price for the night without electricity. I disagreed and offered to pay 60%. She attacked my character, saying, “you are not kind, do you know what the word ‘gentille’ means? You are not ‘gentille’.” She kept insulting and provoking me, and made zipping-her-mouth gestures to ask why I had nothing to say. It was incredibly rude, all over the €50 discount I proposed for a night and day without electricity, after having to pack and move in the middle of the night.

We had delicious food, and the service was 10/10. The staff, especially Patrizia 😀, were so helpful and did everything they could to make our stay the best it could be. There's a bus stop nearby with a direct route to Venice.

The staff made this lovely hotel feel extra special. Nothing was too much trouble, and Sofia deserves a special mention for being amazing.
