Le Grand Cerf

The spa was laid out beautifully for a relaxing break. We lounged there with our books, though the pool and hot tub felt a bit cold. The room was roomy and comfortable, clean but rustic, so don't expect four-star standards at a three-star hotel. The large bath was great, but there was no shower for a quick wash before we left. Staff were very friendly, the location was peaceful and quiet, and breakfast had good quality buffet food, even gooseberries. Parking was plentiful, though the walk to the rooms was a bit long. We'd recommend it and come back.

The medieval village is a beautiful, photogenic setting in a lovely rural area. Check opening times, since many places close Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as daily at lunchtime. Near the post office, on a side road at the edge of the village, there's a two-post EV charger. Scan the QR code to use it. Our stay was spread across two hotels and two restaurants run by the same owners. We slept at Le Grand Cerf, had breakfast at the Licorne Hotel about 100 metres away, and ate dinner in their lounge restaurant, around 200 metres off. It was all delightful, if a little quirky. Our room had beams and was very comfortable, with a small but cleverly designed shower room and a separate toilet. Breakfast was delicious, though the continental selection was basic. Oddly, the table had only little saucers to eat from. When we asked for a plate, the staff seemed reluctant, but eventually brought one. Just one!

A comfortable, clean and tidy hotel, right in the centre, with quiet nights. The spa is a nice extra if you want to unwind. A great place to spend a night or two while passing through and exploring the area.

The room was comfortable, breakfast excellent and staff friendly. We also had a wonderful Michelin-level dinner at the sister hotel next door. It's a lovely, atmospheric place in the centre of the very picturesque little town of Lyons la Foret. Recommended.
