Auberge de Maitre Pannetier

We come back every year on holiday in the Mervent- Vouvant area, except for 2020, and it's always met our expectations. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and they're really helpful if French isn't your first language. There's a good choice of tasty meals, and the wait for food isn't too long. It feels very French, in a nice way.

The portions are generous for the price, and the food itself is simple and good. There's plenty to choose from, though some things feel a bit quick and dirty, like desserts that aren't made fresh on the spot. Service was very fast, so the meal felt a little rushed. It's a fine restaurant, just nothing special.

We’ve enjoyed coming to this auberge several times. The menu changes regularly and the food is good. You can sit indoors or outside in relaxed areas, or choose the more formal dining room by the fireplace. Service is efficient and friendly, and staff are patient with people who speak limited French. Parking is available opposite the church or in the village square in front of the Melusine Tower.

We went on a Tuesday evening and hadn't booked, but the lovely staff seated us without any trouble. I had escargo to start, then Moules Frites, with vin blanc to drink.
