Bercail Hotel

The staff were kind and helpful, and it was lovely being so close to the countryside for walks or a run. The place feels peaceful and charming. I really like the hotel's name and its meaning, too. It was a simple stay that turned out to be very pleasant, and I'd happily come back, probably for longer next time.

We came back for a second stay during the Rugby World Cup, and the staff are a big reason we'd stay again if we're in the area. They worked hard to make things go smoothly. Even on Sunday, when the restaurant was closed, they suggested places to eat, kept the bar serving drinks and had the big screen on for the rugby fans. Housekeeping didn't make up our rooms, but they checked whether we needed anything. The rooms are bright and airy, with comfortable beds, though a little more storage would help.

For a three-star hotel, the quality is pretty high, and it's quite high-tech, maybe a bit too much. The windows let in too much traffic noise at night. I also think breakfast could have more local food and fewer industrial products, especially given the hotel's bio and farming feel. I do like that focus.

Dinner was a mixed bag: my partner thought the burger might be the best they've ever had, and the fries were amazing. My chicken was tasty but a bit boring. The dinner service was lovely. The room and service were amazing too, and breakfast was great, especially the best scrambled eggs I've ever had.
