Hôtel Gardénia

We needed a good-value 3 star place on the edge of Bordeaux for three nights, with a car so we could see the city and nearby wine regions. This worked really well: it's quiet, clean, good value, and the staff are friendly and speak good English. There's a free, secure car park, which makes the location convenient if you're driving. Breakfast was good, with hot food as well as pastries.

For the price, it was perfectly acceptable. Our room was spacious and clean, though it felt a bit damp. We arrived late, and the person checking us in was very helpful.

We found it quiet and well worth the money. It’s an unusual spot for a hotel, out on the edge of a housing estate, but the place was welcoming and nicely presented. Dogs are allowed, even large ones like our German Shepherd, for a small fee. I'd definitely recommend it.

The parking lot was decent, and the hotel is very close to motorway A89. That was about the only upside. Our room was dirty, with crumbs and old food stains all over the table. The child's second bed had no sheets, just a light cloak. Breakfast was very, very poor: no cheese, ham, or butter, only prepacked jams and Nutella. The mugs, cups, forks, and knives were washed by hand so they could be reused by later guests. It was a very unpleasant stay.
