Barn Owl Inn

We stayed the night in a beautiful room and were really impressed by how clean and well presented everything was. The room was very comfortable, with excellent decor. The bar felt warm and friendly, with a great choice of gin and beer. Our food came out hot and fresh, and was well prepared and tasty. Plenty of parking too. Well worth a visit.

The staff were welcoming and polite, and seated us at a spacious, clean table. I’ve been to this traditional pub and restaurant lots of times, and recently tried the roast dinner for the first time. There was a wide choice of meats, and the lamb I picked was absolutely breathtaking.

We’ll return. The service was efficient and friendly, and we were able to leave a tip, which we like to do. When we visited on Sunday, they fitted us in at the last minute after a phone booking. We were welcomed warmly, our drinks order was taken quickly and arrived within minutes, and the room had a lively, jovial feel. The food was a mixed bag. The chicken, bacon and avocado salad had lovely-tasting meat and was fabulous otherwise, but it was very dry, with only a teaspoon of dressing. It actually had more meat than the mixed grill despite costing £10 less. I chose the “Ultimate” mixed grill, partly because the name drew me in, but what arrived didn’t live up to it. The tiny piece of gammon and the chicken were cooked well, and the steak tasted pleasant, but its cooking was more than I could forgive. I couldn’t put the dish in my top 50. They need to improve either the value or the title.

We met a friend for dinner and had a hard time choosing because the menu sounded so good. My goats cheese burger was fantastic, and my partner really enjoyed the steak and ale pie. We weren’t disappointed. We originally booked because the place welcomes dogs, though we didn’t bring ours in the end. Nothing but good things to say about the food, the team and the venue.
