We left early after cleaning the flat ourselves just to get through the first night. When I called the host’s number to report what we’d found, the phone was off. The place hadn’t been properly cleaned before we arrived: there was food from previous guests on the cooker and backsplash, dirty crockery, hair in the fridge, bathroom and beds, plus mould, dirt and sticky marks on several rugs and carpets. There was only one glass, and the washing machine was broken with buttons missing. The flat block is right on the road, so traffic kept us awake all night. Other residents were noisy and smoking too. This was unequivocally the worst Airbnb experience I’ve ever had. I have no idea how previous guests rated it so highly.

The kitchen and bathroom are tiny, and the walls are so thin you hear everything, especially people on the stairs. The bedroom window was a shock: you can see everything from the street, and there are no blinds. For four of us, we were given sleeping space for three, with the fourth person on a folding bed, though we paid for four. We couldn’t get our money back. For me, this was the worst apartment.
