The Wylfa

We arrived for a two-day stay during a difficult time for the hospitality industry. Check-in was at 5 pm to allow for deep cleaning, but the place felt deserted. The only breakfast was delivered to our door at 9 am in a bag. The croissant was great, but the breakfast bar was disappointing, with just a banana. That much was understandable. The room was tiny but clean, and the water pressure was worse than anything I'd known in the Eastern Bloc in the seventies. A standing wash was the best option. But after a long day out, we returned at 10:30 to find the bed unmade and no clean towels. That's unacceptable, especially at £119 a night.

August 2020. We had a wonderful three-night stay in room 1. The sea view and comfortable bed were lovely, and the cleanliness was exceptional, with Covid sanitising followed strictly. I especially enjoyed taking it easy in the morning over the continental breakfast. There was also a great choice of drinks in the room. A great stay all round, and we'll return soon.

We couldn't wait to leave. We were told in the welcome pack that check-in was at 2 o'clock, but no one was there at 3. The soap dispensers in both the toilet and shower room were only half full, there were just four coffee sachets, and there was no security door. Breakfast was just as disappointing. We ordered two soft poached eggs with a little of the other offerings, but all the eggs were overdone. As she cleared our table, the waitress serving all four tables asked if everything was all right. The untouched eggs made the answer obvious, but when I said they were overdone, she happily replied, 'yes but you enjoyed the rest of it!' We were also told to take our car with us when leaving at 10:30.

The staff were so friendly, and the location was spot on, just five minutes from the beach and five from town. There’s no breakfast, but Traeth beach cafe is an easy five-minute walk away and did great coffee and bacon sausage baps. We’ll definitely come back.
