Four Seasons Budget

The rooms are basic but clean, the staff are nice, and breakfast was fantastic. I’d been a bit worried after reading the Google reviews once I’d booked, but everything was fine and good value for money.

We booked five twin rooms well in advance for a group of ten coming to a rugby tournament on a busy weekend. Instead, the hotel put all ten of us in one room. There was no space or privacy, and just one bathroom for everyone. Completely unacceptable. We paid for comfort and convenience and got the opposite. A hostel would have been cheaper and more practical. They offered a free drink as “compensation”, which was insulting. This place is unprofessional and misleading, and seems more like a scam than a hotel. Expect frustration and disappointment if you book.

The place looked nothing like the picture on Booking.com. I know we booked at the last minute, but it felt like a hostel for homeless people. We got a divan bed with no drawers underneath that looked ready for the tip. The room needed painting, had no lampshade, coat hangers, waste bin or TV. We went to the first hotel listed on Booking.com, and they sent us to Four Seasons, which then took us to another property. It looked like renovations were just starting, and they offered us a room where someone was still painting. I thought about sleeping in the car. I’ve stayed in lots of hotels, but this was by far the worst. If I could give minus stars, I would.

The only good thing was breakfast. We were in room 2, through the red door, and got no sleep at all. The window was stuck open, and a pipe running from floor to roof banged all night whenever anyone upstairs used the toilet or shower. Since we were on the ground floor beside the flat’s front door, it slammed each time someone came or went, 14 times through the night.
