Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel

The setting is stunning, though quite remote. The owner was really kind and helpful, and we especially appreciated the clean, practical kitchen. A perfect place.

We couldn't have asked for a better host than James. He was attentive and knew the area so well. Already looking forward to coming back.

The location was peaceful, and the shared kitchen-diner was open and well stocked. It was a nice place to cook or settle down with a book. We could watch loads of finches at the bird table from the window. There are two showers: one electric with steady hot water, and one tank-fed shower that stays hot if you time it right. Our private twin room was very small, though there was room for our dog and his bed. The staff were kind and did what they could to make our stay dog-friendly. Getting from the modern car park involves a short climb, so luggage and anyone less mobile need a bit of care.

The room was tiny, barely big enough for the bed we brought for our dog, even though we paid extra to bring him. It felt prison-like, with a little window set too high to see out of. We were right beside the toilet and could hear shoes clomping and people farting and shitting. This is the worst hostel I've stayed in. The next night we stayed at another hostel, and it was much better.
