Alston turned out to be a lovely, very likeable little town, and I spent my rest day here during the Pennine Way hike. After the rather tough 20-mile hike from Dufton via Cross Fell, I couldn’t have picked a better place to recover and unwind. The Victoria Inn is a classic Main Street pub with rooms upstairs. When I visited, the new owners and managers, Kamila and Paul from London, had been in charge for 6 months, I believe. I was very happy here. My room was simple, clean, cosy and comfortable, and the pub felt sociable and welcoming with great stuff on tap. I had the chili burger on my first evening, and it was fantastic. I haven’t had such a great burger in a long time. Best of all was the warm welcome. Kamila and Paul are true professionals who do an excellent job, and they’re great and interesting company, too. I really enjoyed my stay, wish I could have stayed longer and can warmly recommend the place. Hope I’ll be back someday!

Paul was a really welcoming host, and I had a nice, quiet room on the second floor, looking across the Main Street. The bar served the best burger of my life, followed by a very attentive breakfast with a good full English in the morning. Perfect place to stay while cycling the Coast to Coast.

At The Vic, the atmosphere was brilliant, and the service was top-tier: friendly, fast and genuinely welcoming. The handmade patties in the Disco Burger were the star for me. They were juicy, perfectly seasoned and had that hard-to-find melt-in-your-mouth quality. You can tell they’re not mass-produced and that real care goes into the food. I’ve tried some of the UK’s most hyped burger spots, from big London names to North’s hidden gems, but this is on another level. If you’re anywhere near Alston, you’d be mad to miss it. It’s genuinely the best burger I’ve had in the country, not just a great local pub bite. A massive five stars, Disco Burger is doing something special!

The Victoria had a great pub atmosphere, and the food was even better. Definitely try some of the burgers while you’re there. I can’t stress enough how good they are. We had a great time visiting.

We ate in the restaurant at the back of the pub. The homemade Disco Burgers were delicious, and the cheesecake was sublime. Highly recommended.
