The local area is lovely, with some beautiful walks, but I was glad I’d booked just one night and wouldn’t stay again. Breakfast was a dismal experience. I had to sit very close to two men I didn’t know, which felt awkward. The coffee was good and the eggs were cooked well, but the rest wasn’t. The mushrooms tasted of stale, cheap fat, the tomatoes were barely cooked and still cold, and I had to make my own toast from cheap white bread. The owners were welcoming, and the bedroom was pleasant, cozy and had a nice view. The kettle and mug were old and a bit grubby. I hadn’t expected the bathroom to be across the hall, and it wasn’t clean enough: the toilet hadn’t been bleached, there were hairs on the rim, and the door and handle were grubby. The tilted bed woke me a few times, so I didn’t sleep well.

Dave and Julie were friendly and welcoming, and the room was clean and pleasant. Thanks for providing it yesterday. I was about to mention there wasn’t a kettle, then found it before leaving this morning. Sorry I didn’t say goodbye, I had a busy schedule back in London.

Breakfast was really good, but the stay around it was rough. The place is a long way out, and soon after I arrived I was asked to move my car from the customer parking space because it was apparently the owner's wife's spot. My room was freezing and smaller than beds I've had nearby for less money. There were cobwebs all over, and a fridge and microwave were jammed into a corner, one with a very dodgy plug on the end of its lead. At breakfast I came in through the “wrong” door. The wife curtly told me to leave by that entrance for health and safety, then use another, unmarked door. In the breakfast room there was a bird in a cage hanging beside the cereal bowls. After a week of graft away, one night here might make you feel like you've really earned your money. Stay two nights and you may start looking for trolley-pushing work at the local mega market.

The little room out back was cosy, with a kitchenette and shower room, and it warmed up nicely. I loved waking to birdsong and the two chickens, who weren't very noisy. Breakfast was tasty too, with poached eggs from their hens. Dave and Julie were lovely hosts, really friendly and happy to help with anything. They even tried to get my homesick shih tzu to eat. I'd definitely come back with my dogs when I'm in the area.

The views around the area are lovely, and this would be a great place to stay for a visit to Goodwood. The couple who run it are lovely and make a terrific breakfast. The room also came with facilities like an iron and ironing board and a fridge, which put most hotels to shame. I'd choose this place again.
