Breakfast was a letdown. There were no gluten-free choices that day, and I was simply told they’d run out. For anyone who can’t eat gluten, that means their breakfast is ruined. They also wouldn’t warm soy or oat milk for tea or coffee, saying it was against the rules, though the cook did it on one of the two days I stayed and refused the next. I’ve never had that issue at another hotel. The reception staff were laughing loudly while guests ate quietly. The breakfast cook had acrylic nails, which I found disgusting. The heating was frustrating too: it kept switching off every few hours, so the room got cold unless I turned it back on myself.

The manager had to step in when reception said the hotel was full and suggested I go to a nearby ASDA to buy pillows. I’d asked for a couple more because the room only had two. The manager said they weren’t full at all and brought two pillows up himself. The reception staff had said housekeeping had no spares. The room felt shabby, with stained carpet, a desk area coming apart, and a toilet that barely flushed. Service was appalling, and the bar shuts at 11am for some unknown reason. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. Look elsewhere.

The room was clean, and the shower had great water pressure. Staff were friendly, and the breakfast buffet was good value. Getting here from the motorway was easy, with plenty of back-to-back parking spaces that worked for my trailer.

The food at dinner was possibly the worst I’ve ever had in a hotel. Staff said the adults had taken the kids’ food, though they were serving it, so we had to buy food for the children. We’d come with the Lomond Travel Tour for the Polar Express, and after the long trip I found a bed that looked like someone had already slept in it. The sheets were crumpled and stained, and there were vomit stains on the mattress. I’m disabled, and the filthy room phone didn’t work, so I had to make my way down to reception. It was all closed up, and I couldn’t even get a coffee while waiting. They offered a room with a broken toilet or one they hadn’t checked. I chose the unchecked room; after checking it, they said it was okay. But the air freshener made me choke, and there was smoke too, as if someone had been smoking substances in there. That phone was filthy and broken as well. I had to go down again, then wait while they aired out the room and changed the bedding. My 9yr old grandson and I didn’t get to bed until well after 1am. We waited in my daughter’s room, keeping everyone else up, including the 3yrs/ 7yrs, until they could call my mobile to say the room was ready because the phones didn’t work. Even then, there was dirt and hair all over the bathroom and the floor, which stuck to our feet. They asked me to send photos, which I did. No apology, no reply, and they’ve done absolutely nothing. Disgusting and unacceptable. I’ve stayed in Ramada before without any problems. The smells in the corridors in the evening are something else. The Police might want to pop in and walk around.

The rooms were lovely and comfortable, with tea and facilities in the room. Staff were lovely and the food was nice too, so I’d definitely recommend it. It is looking a bit tired and could do with freshening up, though. Otherwise, a lovely hotel.
