YHA Hawkshead - Hostel

There’s a kitchen and a social room with games, which made for a fun weekend away from screens. We didn’t eat on site, though breakfast and dinner are available at fairly low prices, and there’s a bar in the evenings. The toilets and showers were very clean. The campsite has lovely lake views and is a peaceful place to camp near Windermere. Hawkshead village is about a 20-minute walk away. At the house next week, there’s an honesty box with fresh cakes.

Storm Dave knocked out the power while we were there, but staying in the teepi meant it didn’t spoil things. The staff were really helpful, and breakfast was huge. It’s about 10 minutes down to the ferry across Windermere. Another fantastic YHA, and you can’t beat the place.

My family and I stayed here, and my brother noticed the day after we left that he’d forgotten his watch. We rang as soon as he realised. The manager said they’d identified it from the description and put it in the safe lost and found. When we called the next day to sort out an address and suitable postage, we were told they didn’t have it. It was a sentimental watch from our dad. Even months later, it still hadn’t turned up. The whole thing seemed very odd, and we wouldn’t stay here again because the staff seemed untrustworthy.

Good value for money, with clean rooms, tasty food, and pleasant service. We had a nice stay.
