The rooms were clean and charming, but I wouldn’t recommend this guest house. Blairdene was hard to find because you can’t approach it from the street. We had to look up a phone number and call for directions. On a Sunday evening, with the shops closed, we were told to drive along the walkway. The police stopped us, then dismissed the issue because we weren’t locals. Our luggage had been lost during the flight, and we told the “hostess” at Blairdene to expect it after we left Edinburgh. One bag arrived, but the second was sent back to the airport a couple of hours later because the “hostess” had a doctor’s appointment and hadn’t arranged anyone to cover for her. We had to collect it from the airport an hour before our flight home. We were without that bag for 10 days. Thanks, Blairdene.

I left my jacket behind in the room, and Irene called me about 70 miles and an hour and a half down the road. She even offered to post it all the way to America. She’s a cheerful, lovely host, and the bed was very comfortable. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

My room was one of the cleanest I’ve stayed in, and the breakfast she cooked was lovely and well prepared. The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming. Even at short notice, she made sure my bicycle was stored securely and was incredibly helpful. I’d stay again, and if I’m back in Arbroath, I’ll be sure to book.

The room was awful, with damp patches on the walls and roof windows, and I found a wood louse crawling in the bathroom. They also wanted extra money for breakfast. It was good when irene was there. The place needs a proper revamp.
