The hotel and staff were great. The trouble was that the ferry across the Loch wasn’t running, so the coach had to take a 15-mile route along a single-track road. It was like a roller coaster, and not for anyone faint-hearted or even slightly prone to travel sickness.

The waterfall right outside is stunning, and you get brilliant views of Loch Lomond as soon as you step out. We stopped after walking the Rowardennan to Inversnaid stretch of the West Highland Way. It was too late for lunch, but we got a cuppa while we waited for the ferry to Tarbet. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome even though we weren’t staying overnight.

We stayed four nights last week on a Lochs & Glens tour. The hotel is in a lovely spot on the edge of Loch Lomond, with a waterfall beside it. Our room was quiet, cosy and warm to come back to each evening. The food was very good, always hot, and there was plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. Thanks to all the staff, and to the drivers who got us around safely each day and shared so many interesting stories and bits of knowledge.

The views were lovely, but stopping here on the WHW was a weird experience. There isn’t another place for a meal or overnight stay for more than 20 km along that stretch, yet arriving made us feel like we had the bubonic plague. Walkers have a separate entrance and must leave shoes and backpacks in a dry room, then go to the bar in socks to order food, or even walk to the toilet that way 🤮. Other hikers told us WHW walkers get breakfast after 8.30, once the first coach-tour group has eaten. Keep that in mind if you HAVE to stop here.

The views from the rooms over the loch are fantastic, and the location is great. The staff were very friendly and helpful 👍.
