The breakfast room and lounge are full of character, with the hotel's history described on the walls. We spent two nights here for my wife's birthday, and it's a lovely historic coaching inn in the town centre, beautifully furnished throughout. We paid extra for a larger room and had Room 7. It was huge and quiet, tucked into the whole of one rear wing. The heating worked well, which we appreciated while the weather was still cool.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times and always enjoy it. The hake was beautifully cooked last night, Thursday, and the chef did a fantastic job. A special shout-out to the waiter from Madeira, too. Excellent service!

The food and wine were delicious, even approved by my French family, and the DJ was great. He included French music as we'd asked. The room looked even prettier than I'd imagined, thanks to the decorator they provided, who did a great job setting the table and decorating it. The staff were lovely and helpful throughout our wedding reception at the Norfolk Arms. Sue Cotton deserves a special mention for helping with all the room bookings, and events manager Michelle Tyson made sure the day ran smoothly. Charlotte was quick to respond when there was an issue with our cake. The rooms were really comfortable, and the bridal suite was perfect for getting ready with the bridesmaids and my mother. I can't recommend the Norfolk Arms enough as a wedding venue.

We love the low-ceiling rooms, they're cosy and romantic, and every room we've stayed in has had a beautiful view. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and the cooked breakfast comes with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Parking within the hotel grounds is a real bonus. This was our third stay in 10 weeks and our sixth in total, and we plan to return. Caroline was attentive and lovely to chat with when helping with this latest booking. She gave us a better price than the online booking sites, so booking direct seems best. A welcome bottle of Prosecco was waiting in our room this weekend. When we celebrated a special occasion in December, we were upgraded to a bigger room with a four-poster bed and a view over the high street, decorated with lots of sparkly festive Christmas lights.

We arrived for lunch today after seeing the menu outside, which said lunch was served from 12 noon. We sat in the courtyard, then went to find staff for a drink and menu, but got no service. We were told they might be doing food later. The bars were closed and the attitude felt like nobody could be bothered. Avoid.
