THE PIG in the South Downs - West Sussex

The staff are what made our stay at the Sussex South Downs Pig stand out. Everyone was attentive and charming, including the gardeners, whose garden tour we enjoyed. The Newt is also wonderful, but its staff didn't compare. The garden and field cabins were lovely, and we lit the log fire at midnight for the experience. The morning outdoor shower was the best! Two people in our party were celebrating birthdays and were treated to bubbly and happy birthday fudge. We had a lovely time and will definitely visit again.

Even 10 days later, I'm still smiling about our special night away at The Pig. The shepherds hut was very well appointed, and the outdoor shower was superb. The wine list was great, the cocktails good and the service excellent all around. The house and gardens are beautiful throughout. From the start, we felt well looked after, with service that was casual but highly attentive. Dinner was 10/10, with a comfortable dining room and brilliant food from the kitchen's extensive onsite garden and vineyard. Love it.

I'm coeliac, and the restaurant staff were so thoughtful about it. Every member clearly knew, and they told me about gluten issues before I even had to ask. Usually I miss out when my husband gets the fabulous homemade bread, but this time they brought me a gluten-free roll without me asking. Even the shortbread with my after-dinner coffee was gf. It was a birthday celebration, and from check-in I was made to feel special. We got complimentary bubbly with dinner and a plate of birthday piggy fours. The staff made it a really special celebratory day. Well done, Pig!

I had the BEST birthday here. Everyone was so friendly and generous with their time, from reception to the gardeners. They seemed genuinely happy and like they cared, which is rare. The food, as always, was incredible. Shoutout to Taylor at the bar for giving my girlfriend and me a whiskey tour. Made our night. We'll be back.
