We took advantage of the Monday special: pie of the day and a drink. The steak and ale pie came with fresh vegetables and mash, and it was excellent, with plenty of veg and gravy, lots of meat and beautiful pastry. Staff were friendly and very obliging, so we'd definitely recommend it. We had lunch at Sportsman Inn earlier this week, sitting in the conservatory with a lovely countryside view. Binoculars were provided so we could watch the wildlife over a drink while waiting for the food.

The welcome was so warm, and the views were amazing. It felt like a much-needed break and really good value. One of the friendliest places I’ve stayed, and I’ll definitely return.

Breakfast with the flood plains and resident birds outside was a lovely start to the day. I only came for breakfast and the car club’s annual Christmas dinner, so I didn’t stay overnight, but friends who did had good things to say about the rooms and facilities. The dinner itself was fabulous, with delicious food and very attentive staff in both the bar and restaurant. I’d have liked more time for long walks around the area. Thank you, we’ll be back.

The food was so good, and the views are lovely. We stayed for two nights and found the room comfy and modern, with a relaxed, welcoming feel throughout. The staff were kind and helpful too. I’d happily recommend it. I really hope they can get the funding to keep it open!

Sunday lunch at The Sportsman was a real treat. I had the roast beef with all the trimmings, while my father-in-law chose fish and chips. Both the atmosphere and service were lovely. Thank you.
