The host was kind and put on quite a spread for breakfast. Our room had lovely furniture, an ensuite, and nice decor, though there was a lingering smell from recent paint that stayed with us overnight. It wasn’t much of a problem for just one evening. If you want somewhere quaint and quiet, this is the place.

A comfortable bed, a lovely breakfast, and great value for money. The location worked perfectly for what we needed.

Tina made a delicious breakfast, and the packed lunches she prepared for our day at Alton Towers were a real help. Food there is very expensive and not great. We stayed one night while visiting, and the rooms were fine.

The host runs the place single handedly and was fantastic, nothing felt like too much trouble. Our room was clean, comfortable, and lovely, and breakfast had a good range to choose from. I’d definitely recommend staying here and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

We had no complaints about the stay, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend The Lilacs. The hostess welcomed us right away and knew the local area well. Her pub suggestions for our first night were cracking, and she also told us where to park for free in Ashbourne. The back room looked out over fields, a lovely view to wake up to. It was a decent size, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable, with a great bed and thoughtful extras like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, little chocolate bars, and murray mints. The bathroom was huge, possibly the biggest I’ve had in any accommodation, with a fantastic bath, a decent shower, and plenty of room for two. Breakfast was included, and we had the full English both mornings. It was hearty and delicious. There are only two breakfast tables, which made for friendly chat with other guests or the charming hostess. One thing to watch is getting out onto the often busy main road. Bushes in the neighbouring field really block the view to the right, so it can be hard to see traffic coming. We found it easier for one person to wait for a gap and guide the driver out. I’d definitely stay again if I’m in the area.
