The shower was good, and the reception staff were kind and friendly, even though they couldn’t sort out the bed problem. Breakfast was decent too, though the restaurant felt grim. There was only a paper bath mat and nowhere to hang towels. We paid over £270 a night for a family room advertised with a double bed and sofa bed. The sofa bed was unusable, sagging with hard metal straps across the base and a very thin fabric-covered spring mattress. A kind young man at reception eventually found a Z bed for my overtired child. The double bed was extremely soft, and I had an awful night with terrible back pain. I asked the manager the next morning about any alternative for night two, such as a mattress on the floor, another room, or a refund, but nothing could be done. Extra bedding was promised so we could sleep on the floor, but that never arrived. In the end, my child slept on the folded-up sofa, I used the Z bed mattress on the floor, and my partner made do with the bed. The two managers, who are a couple, seemed completely uninterested. I was told all the mattresses were new and “maybe that’s why they are soft.” I can’t understand why a hotel would buy ultra-soft mattresses, especially when most guests seemed to be over 60. Polyester duvets and too much ill-fitting, mismatched furniture sticking into the narrow path to the bed made the stay depressing and the night’s sleep even worse. Locals I spoke to weren’t surprised and said the place has a terrible reputation. The family room was uncomfortable, neglected, and hugely overpriced. Book somewhere else early. There are gorgeous places a stone’s throw away for less than we paid. This was truly awful.

The Tobermory Restaurant made dinner a treat. I had wonderfully plump, delicious Langoustines, a great salad with green olives, and a good choice of wines at fair prices. The Tobermory Hotel itself is cozy and pleasant, right across from the picturesque waterfront and well placed for exploring town. The staff and service were wonderful, always ready to help. Sophi, Vaughan, Amy, Will and Heather deserve a special mention, they’re a lovely team. A night or two with those dinners and breakfast is a relaxing treat.

After a long rainy day, it was lovely to have coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in our cozy room. We’d been upgraded and had a beautiful view. The staff were so warm and welcoming, and the restaurant food was very good. I only noticed too late that they had a cheese plate, so I’ll have to come back and try it. The carpet throughout the room felt a bit odd to us from Germany, as it seemed somewhat unhygienic.

We were on a day trip from Oban and stopped for lunch, with a window seat looking out at the harbour. The welcome was fantastic, and the bright, cheerful young woman at the front of house made us feel at home. We’d already eaten some bakery fare and weren’t very hungry, so we shared fish and chips. They thoughtfully brought it on separate plates, with generous portions of both, delightful homemade tartare sauce, and mushy peas. Compliments to the chef and the front of house. It was probably the best fish and chips we’ve had, and the care in how it was served was exemplary. Strongly recommend!

Mia found us a table even though we hadn’t booked, and dinner was brilliant. The seafood boil was outstanding, with a cozy fire adding to the evening. Highly recommend this place for a meal in Tobermory.
