The Griffin Hotel

I only ate there, I didn’t stay at the hotel, so I can’t say what the rooms are like. I ordered a jacket potato, but it was still frozen and really shouldn’t have been sent out of the kitchen. I only managed a couple of forkfuls, then started feeling unwell not long after. The staff didn’t make me feel welcome and seemed more focused on the pub regulars than on me. I didn’t mention the food at the time because I already felt unwanted. I won’t go back and wouldn’t recommend it.

Paul greeted me promptly at the bar and was polite, attentive, and very professional. He sorted out parking and went above and beyond to meet my needs, and made me feel welcome. The room was spacious, with a unique four-poster bed, and was very well priced. I liked the cool rustic style, and the stay fit my budget and ticked all the boxes. My vegetarian breakfast arrived quickly and was fresh and good. Paul was superb, thank you :-) Oh, and the toilet has a blender attached, so you’ve been warned lol.

The full English breakfast is simple but amazing, with top-quality ingredients, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Food is available daily, and it looks like they have a Sunday carvery too. The rooms have the basic things you need for a stopover, and food and drinks are very reasonably priced. It’s an old building, with uneven floors and walls and all the original wonky woodwork exposed.

I go to the Griffin fairly regularly because the food is so good. The meals are always fresh, tasty, nicely presented, and well cooked. I can highly recommend them for the food.
