We were given a very warm welcome and the service was excellent. They were also really kind to our dog, who came along with us. I had the steak and ale pie, beautifully cooked, while my husband chose the burger with chips and coleslaw. Both meals were delicious, and we had a lovely evening at The George.

The pudding board had very little choice for £6: apple crumble, chocolate sponge or mango sorbet, with ice cream at £5.50. The main meal was just as disappointing, especially for the price. My daughter’s burger was dry and burnt at the edges, and the chips were dark brown and sparse. My husband asked for tartar sauce with his fish, but they didn’t have any, and there was no salt or pepper on the tables. We waited ages for the food, which was terrible and overcooked. We came to The George for my husband’s birthday, knowing it had recently changed hands and that this was the first night food was being served after kitchen work. Since it’s our local, we thought they’d want to make a good impression. The wood was in the open fireplace but it wasn’t lit, so the room felt cold. We were really disappointed. It’s a nice village pub, but it needs decent food.

The meal was home cooked, tasty and very reasonably priced. It’s a lovely country pub, with friendly staff and a warm welcome. I’m looking forward to another visit and would definitely recommend it.

The rooms are small, with very old decor, and nothing special. The big problem for me was that there was no Wi-Fi in the bedroom. It’s a fairly cheap place to stay with a bar on site, and breakfast was very good, a standard full English. They also serve evening meals, though I didn’t try one.

We loved the beef Sunday roast and the great puddings at this quaint village pub. Everything was very reasonably priced. If we’d been on a two-week holiday, we’d definitely have gone back the following Sunday.
