We couldn't stay here. The mould on the bedding, travel cot and walls, along with the general filth, felt unsafe for my baby, who was born with respiratory issues. We left, and Anne Hardie still hasn't apologised or refunded us for the seven nights we didn't stay. The relevant parties have been alerted because I don't think Anne should be taking bookings without keeping the property to an acceptable standard or following environmental policies. We arrived after a four-hour journey with our eight-month-old and were shocked by the state of the place. The whole house smelled strongly of damp, dust and mould, as if it hadn't been occupied for a long time. Furniture and the fireplace were dusty and covered in cobwebs, mould was on the windows and growing on the walls, and every bed's linen was dusty, damp, torn and stained. The travel cot was broken, with mould on the lining of its “mattress”. That was one of the main reasons we'd booked Dairy Cottage, as it seemed suitable for our baby. The towels were old, the bathrooms had partly used shower gel cartons, and the kitchen was full of half-used personal belongings. We were told not to touch the heating, even though it was winter and we had a new baby. Anne Hardie was rude and unwelcoming. She went so far as to make a discriminatory remark about my blindness, saying I shouldn't have had a child, and asked how I “coped”.

The stench and dirt were so bad that we left less than 12 hours after arriving. The place was filthy, damp and mouldy, with torn and stained bedding, and felt unsafe and unhygienic. The owner, Anne Hardie, was offensive and neglectful, showed no interest in taking responsibility for the dismal rental, and never corresponded with us. We received no compensation or refund. This was a shocking disregard for guests. Avoid it. It has been reported to licensing and safety standards.

The cottage was next to a horse stable and smelled very bad. We paid for two nights but stayed only one, and the owners seemed greedy. One of the worst places I've stayed. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
