We stayed four days in Room 10 and loved every minute. It has a lovely view and a cosy sitting area. The room's decor had about five different patterns, and somehow they all worked together beautifully. The dining options were great, with that classic, upscale English country house style. Everyone was welcoming, even though I think we were the only Americans there at the time. The food and service were great, and we dressed up for a splurge dinner one evening, which was fun. There's lots to do nearby, with significant hiking options. The walk through the fields to Chatsworth is beautiful, and I felt like I was in a Pride and Prejudice scene. If you stay several days, you could visit Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall more than once. Allow 2-5 hours for each, as there's so much to see. A perfect place for a long getaway weekend with friends or multiple couples.

We only ate at the Gallery restaurant once, but dinner there was excellent. If you're visiting Chatsworth, I believe the hotel's ticket package allows multiple entry, so get your tickets through the hotel. Chatsworth House is about a 30 minutes walk away. Our room was a reasonable size, well appointed, and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

Dinner at the one-star Michelin restaurant, "The Gallery", was lovely. The food was cooked superbly, especially the very tender Derbyshire beef and crispy chips. It was a decent three-course meal with good flavour and nice presentation. We stayed one night in late December. Room 7 was quite cold and the furniture a bit old, but the receptionist and housekeeper kindly moved us to Room 1. A chair was broken too, though they replaced it quickly. The Cavendish Hotel is only a 28-minute walk through pleasant green grassland to famous Chatsworth House.

My parents have had afternoon tea all over the UK, but they said this was the loveliest and best they've had. David's service was excellent, so attentive and superb. Thank you for making it such a lovely experience for them.

My son took me here for my birthday yesterday, Easter Sunday, and I was sad that it didn't match my visit three years ago, when the food and service were excellent. He paid a lot, and the food was mediocre at best. The starters were OK but nothing special. My roast beef was tasty, though lukewarm, which took away from the enjoyment. My son's lamb was very poor, extremely fatty and sinewy, and so hard to cut that he had to tear it. We didn't complain because he didn't want to spoil a special treat, and I didn't want him to feel bad. It was very busy, and our 3pm booking was at the end of service. It felt like we were left with the leftovers. I felt so sorry for my son, as he'd booked based on how good it had been before.
