I enjoyed my stay a lot. The house is very nice and well maintained inside and out. My room had its own private bathroom right next door, and there was a high level of privacy. The mattress was excellent and gave me a great night's sleep. Breakfast was relaxed, with freshly cooked food, fruit, and cereal. I appreciate small details, so the proper butter knife and real silver sugar spoon were a nice touch. Janette mentioned that the breakfast sausages came from Scotland's best supplier, Russell's of Inverurie! The seating area is worth a visit in itself, with a TV, a view to die for, and a distinctive layout. Have a beer there and enjoy.

The place left us feeling uncomfortable from the start. We were told to wipe our feet even though the sun was out, to keep our luggage on the bedroom floor, and not to use the spare single bed in the room we were paying for. The host also suggested we could skip a cooked breakfast because we were going to a wedding and would get fed there. We felt watched the whole time, and the welcome was anything but warm. Fawlty Towers comes off well by comparison.

Breakfast was uncomfortable, with Janette repeatedly telling my husband to sit forward in his chair. We were also told on arrival to wipe our feet and that she would prefer us to take our shoes off upstairs. Then, at 11.30am, the host walked into our room without knocking and told us we had to leave by 10am every morning. Extremely rude, not relaxing at all. Do NOT stay here.

Our first day in Scotland went so well, we couldn't have asked for more. The owners arranged to transfer our bags to our next stop in Girvan, and in the morning we had a lovely full breakfast. We were warmly welcomed at The Haven B&B after starting out on the Ayrshire Coastal Path. The room was a great size, with a beautiful bathroom.

The house reeked of stale smoke, despite the No Smoking signs, because she smoked in the kitchen. She spent the weekend talking about her health and a bereavement, and expected us to listen to all of it. Then she called me overweight and greedy. She also got my wife and me to take her out for a meal as HER guest, but expected us to pay, and insisted we drive her so she could have a drink. A horrible, disgusting experience. I intend to complain and ask for my money back.
