The hotel's handy for everything in the heart of town, but after this stay I can't recommend it. I've been here several times before, including the last two nights. My Sunday morning early check-in was fine, but the room was only so-so. The bathroom radiator was coming off the wall, the toilet didn't always flush, the toilet roll holder kept slipping off its bracket and the basin was tarnished. I ended up cleaning it myself. The bed felt like a wooden board, and the TV remote barely worked. The iron in the room wasn't fit for use either. I asked reception for another one, got a large steam iron, but that didn't work, so I had to manage as best I could before a funeral. Lunch was just as disappointing. I came down for the Sunday roast, advertised as serving lunch from c1849, and paid £25.95 for two courses. The soup looked like water with barley and a little leek, and came with an uncooked bread roll. I ordered lamb and asked for a Yorkshire pudding. The young waitress checked with the head waitress, who first said no, then changed her mind and told her to ask the chef. It wasn't a good response when I was paying for lunch. The pudding that arrived was smaller than the single roast potato, and the vegetables were a tiny, poor-looking portion of two carrots and two parsnips. There was no mint sauce or gravy with the very overcooked lamb, so I had to ask for both. My pint of diet Coke was completely flat. The restaurant was nearly empty at 1:15. I sent the meal back and was offered something else, but didn't want to order again. I took a photo and would be happy to send it or post it here. Rococo' is just around the corner, and the food and service there were delicious, so please go there instead. At breakfast the next morning, the selection seemed poor for a hotel this size. Food businesses are meant to cater for allergies and dietary needs. I'm a severe diabetic, and all I asked for was two plain poached eggs and sweeteners for my coffee. There were no sweeteners, and there never have been on any of my visits, so the hotel isn't meeting the food standards requirements, in my view. When I came back later, I asked reception at 11:45 to call a cab because I needed to be in Cullybecy before 1 p.m. The receptionist's expression made me feel as if I'd offended her by asking for help. That wasn't on. That evening, the bar wouldn't give me a glass of ice for my room either. This old hotel is in a convenient spot, but there's far too little attention to detail. I gave the location one star because I was worried five would raise the rating. Management needs to sort this out before I return.

We waited about 45 minutes for our Christmas meal, which wasn't ideal. I loved my fish and chips and Dad enjoyed his roast beef, but Nanny found a couple of bones in her salmon and the mac and cheese didn't agree with my wife. Dad and I had a good meal, though the other half of the table had problems. I'd probably return, but this wouldn't be my first choice in Ballymena.

We sat there for nearly half an hour and didn't even get a glass of water. The waitress showed us to a table, left menus, and went to get our drinks, but never came back. We called in for dinner this evening and won't be returning.

The room was big, the bed was really comfortable, and the bathroom had both a bath and a separate shower. Breakfast had a good range of hot and cold options. Some things are a little dated, but everything still feels right in this quaint boutique-style hotel. The staff were attentive and lovely. First visit, and I already want to come back. Definitely recommend it.

We had a lovely time here with friends and family for afternoon tea, lunch and dinner. The staff were friendly and it was very clean. Good value too, with two courses for £22.00 on weekdays from 4 pm to 7 pm.
