I love the cottages Sally, Phillip and Andrew have made from the cow byre and hay loft. They're beautiful and have everything you'd need for a perfect stay. I really hope we can come back for another relaxing holiday. I've been holidaying at Mellwaters for more than 55 years. We started out camping, then stayed in a caravan when there was a campsite. Bowes and Barnard Castle hold so many happy memories for me. I absolutely love the whole place. Barbara and Terry Burrough

Robin Cottage was warm and cosy, with good-quality furnishings, plenty of equipment, a downstairs WC and a stairlift. It's on a peaceful working farm, yet well placed for visiting lots of tourist destinations. Our hosts were friendly and extremely helpful. Barnard Castle is just a few miles away, with a good range of shops selling excellent local produce. The butcher at the top of the high street is well worth a visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend Mellwaters Barn Cottages.

The cottages are grouped together in one large building, and many have been adapted for disabled access and use. The walking areas around the farm are lovely, and Barnard Castle is nearby. It's a beautiful, peaceful location. The owners' welcome felt rather muted and unfriendly, and beyond the information folder they didn't help us get settled. The folder covers most things, but not everything. The farmer and his son were friendly enough. It seems like the kind of place where you may need to figure things out as you settle in and look around.

The welcome park was fabulous, the scenery fantastic, and there are amazing walks and places close at hand. The cottage was brilliantly equipped for two. I think you can tell, I loved it here.

The cottages and rooms are spacious, tidy and kept in great condition. Mellwaters is run by the sweetest couple, and all their staff are polite and helpful.
