The buffet for the surprise birthday party was fantastic, and nobody had a complaint. The staff were some of the most welcoming I’ve met in a pub for ages. I spent several hours at the bar before heading up to my room, which turned out to be quite modern and had good views over the high street. I’d stay here again without hesitation. We’d come to The Fountain Inn for a 90 yr old lady’s surprise party. She has lunch here every Saturday, and I was unsure what to expect from the B&B. When I walked in, it looked like a proper northern boozer, not a pub pretending to be something else. I know some people might complain about noise from the bar, but it’s a B&B above a busy pub, and it didn’t bother me at all. The next morning’s full English was delicious. It may not have the modern, fancy look some people expect, but it’s a great place to eat, drink and stay, with attentive staff.

The landlady found us a room at short notice when we called in last minute. A young woman from the bar showed us up and was really lovely. The chef was ill, so we couldn’t have dinner, but we enjoyed drinks and the staff were brilliant throughout. In the morning, the stand-in chef served a top-class breakfast. Well done, and thank you to everyone.

We had some wonderful food, among the best I’ve tasted. My wife chose the leg of lamb, and I had present breast with sausage and black pudding wrapped in bacon. Both dishes arrived promptly and were nicely presented. The staff were very helpful, and the landlady went out of her way for us. The rooms were pleasant, though a little basic. I’d recommend eating here if you’re passing through Barnoldswick.

The pub is pleasant enough, with a good range of beers, but they aren’t always kept in the best condition. I mostly avoid the real ale now, which is a shame, as I’ve had to ask for a different beer several times. The food is usually good.
