Chequers Lodge

The Brown Cow next door is a great restaurant, and the portions are generous. The lakes are nearby too. The rooms are a good size, clean, and well maintained, and my bed was on the firm side. I have neck problems, though, and it actually helped. The room was as good as a five-star hotel abroad, just without swimming pools! My only real issue was noise from heavy footsteps upstairs, which other guests have mentioned too. Earplugs are provided. I'd definitely stay again.

A beautifully refurbished old school building, with a very comfortable, well-equipped king room and kitchenette. It was ideally placed for researching ancestors and exploring further around Furness. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I'd definitely recommend it.

Laura was amazing and always just a phone call away. I contacted her quite a lot, and she replied straight away every time. She went above and beyond to help, and by the end I felt like she'd become a friend 🤗. It's clear Laura and her family really want guests to have a good stay and will do what they can to make it happen. We had five fabulous nights at Chequers Lodge on 15th September 2025, and it's the best hotel we've stayed in, here or abroad. Check-in and check-out were easy. The hotel was modern, beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, and smelled lovely as soon as we came in. Our room had everything we could need and more, including the best biscuits. The bed was really comfortable, and the bedding and towels were spotless. The bedding and pillows were high quality. The ensuite was spacious, with a large shower and toiletries. Thank you, Laura, for being so kind and helpful. We'll be back very soon!

As a woman travelling alone, I can sometimes feel a bit vulnerable staying away, but I felt safe in these lodges. They were clean, smelled amazing, and had very modern facilities. Such a lovely hidden gem. I'd recommend staying here and will definitely come back on my next visit to the area.
