The room had a beautiful view from its balcony, and breakfast was nice, though I would have liked more choices such as croissants, fruit and vegetables. Bloomfield park and Alexandra park are within walking distance. The city centre and bus station are about a 20-minute walk away.

This is just my experience, and may not reflect other people's, so read the reviews across the sites. Danny looked after us from the start to the end of our stay. He answered a phone query, checked us in, serviced the rooms and cooked a tasty breakfast fresh while we waited. He also served drinks from the small bar in the lounge. There was plenty of parking. The hotel feels dated and worn in places, and the shower pressure was very poor. It's a 20-minute walk downhill to Bath, or you can catch the No.4 bus from St Lukes, just a few yards above the hotel. The same bus brings you back. If you want to avoid the steep hill, lots of buses from bay 9 go up to the top of the hill at Bears Flat, a few hundred yards short of the hotel.

The staff were lovely, but the room really wasn't great. At £110, I expected a lot better. The tiny bathroom needed refurbishing, the floor tiles were awful and there were lots of stains on the carpet. The bed was so lumpy that I woke with back pain, and the room got very cold overnight.

Thank you, Danny, for the warm welcome and hospitality. Your cooked breakfast deserves the 5-star food rating. The rooms are large and clean, though the furnishings are dated, and WiFi is available. This hotel suits people who like walking: the city centre is a 20-minute walk away. For anyone less fit, the No.4 bus passes frequently nearby. My only criticism of this 3-star place is the shower pressure.

It's a very basic hotel, though cheap, and I found the welcome underwhelming. The man who showed me to my room was quite abrupt, and I didn't feel welcome at all. The card machine wouldn't accept either of my cards, though both worked fine in Bath town a little later. When I asked about getting breakfast, he couldn't be bothered to sort it out and said it was easy to find breakfast locally. I seemed to be the only guest there, too. I was put in an awful basement room, even though there seemed to be nicer rooms upstairs with views. There was painting work going on in the basement area as well. I wouldn't recommend this place to a woman travelling alone. When I returned in the evening, the front door wouldn't open with the keys I'd been given. Luckily the man was around to let me in, or I would have had to sleep in my car. On arrival, he also told me to repark my car facing another way, and that wasn't said in a friendly manner either, despite me being very friendly with people. I wouldn't go back, ever. The experience has made me much more cautious about booking places in future. Fawlty Towers would have been a rather nice stay by comparison.
