Hay Meadow Farm

The owners gave us a lovely welcome, which we really appreciated. We were two families, seven people in all, and there was more than enough room, with great showers, a dining room, and an awesome yard. It’s a good place if you want to get away and be a bit isolated. There aren’t many things nearby, so you’ll need to take care of your own cooking.

The cottage is stunning and really comfortable, and the family who live on site were friendly and accommodating. We felt very safe letting the kids run around and explore in the incredibly peaceful surroundings. There was plenty to see and do locally too. We enjoyed our stay at Hay Meadow Farm so much, I could easily have stayed another week and would love to return someday.

Duncan and Jane were such friendly, helpful people, and Steph cooked fantastic breakfasts. The mushrooms were the tastiest I’ve ever had! Breakfast was included, with loads to choose from and options for many dietary needs. We stayed four nights at Hay Meadow Farm as a family of four, in the quirky Buttercup room. It was spacious, with a king bed, a large double, wardrobe space, drawers, a big table, coffee, and lots of teas, including fair trade ones. The ensuite was small but just right, and the shower was amazing. The complimentary toiletries were a generous size, cruelty free, and vegan, a thoughtful touch I haven’t seen at other hotels. There’s very little or no phone signal or internet. If you like planning outings the night before, you may need to go into town to do that, but otherwise it wasn’t a big deal. You come here to relax and get away. Hay Meadow Farm was amazing, and I’d give it more stars if I could. We’ll be back.

There’s plenty to explore nearby, from historic inland towns to seaside spots and beaches. Bude is a half-hour drive, and we spent an afternoon at Widemouth bay. I stayed three nights with my family in this wonderful house, with over a thousand years of history in its walls. We all slept well, and breakfast was superb, served at the cafe opposite the farmhouse. I’d recommend the salmon and scrambled egg! A lovely place to recharge and enjoy the natural surroundings.
