Malt Shovel Cottage

The booking was straightforward, and the directions, instructions and preparation were excellent. We found this one of the best cottages we’ve stayed in, with thoughtful details and a great location. It’s in Crakehall, beside a stream, and close to Bedale. Inside there’s plenty of room and it’s cosy and comfortable. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, so bakers should have everything they need, and the dining table has room for friends. The small sunny terrace is pleasant, though there’s an unprotected drop of about 600-800mm at its edge, so it may not suit younger children. Upstairs, the main bedroom is lovely, but we found the bed firmer than we prefer. The second bedroom has two single beds and is much smaller, fine for a couple of children but only just adequate for a couple. The bathroom is well appointed, with a bath and a good shower. We visited in summer, so can’t say how the heating is, but there are plenty of radiators and a wood burner, so I expect it’ll be warm in winter.
