The Mill hotel made a good base for one night, with easy travel, nearby parking, and disabled parking too. It's a busy, lively pub, and the owners are warm and welcoming. The music has an eclectic range, which I enjoyed as a metalhead, and the pub is worth stopping for a drink. The room was quite nice, with a comfortable bed, sink, tea and coffee, a single wardrobe, desk lamp, and plenty of sockets. You can enter and leave separately from the pub, which was convenient. The toilets and bathrooms are up the first flight: two gents' toilets, one ladies', and two spacious bathrooms, though the toilets themselves are snug. The rooms are up a small flight of stairs. A couple of issues: the room door locks, but the wood is coming away from the frame and needs fixing. The radiator has no TRV and stays on full, so I had to keep the window open. Being right in the centre made it noisy, though I sleep very deeply. Still, a delightful pub hotel, good for the price and location, and it did the job for the night.

Reassuringly grim. This place could inspire a noir crime comic. But if you're after a quiet night's sleep, a comfortable bed, WiFi, or a nearby toilet and shower, look elsewhere. I'm glad places like this still exist, though I was afraid to pull the cord above the bed in case it set something off.

We've been dropping in since the 80s, and it still feels like an old-school pub where the landlord knows your name. It's a regular haunt for the over-30s crowd, with familiar faces, a decent pint, mates, and a welcoming word from the staff.

For a couple of days in a good location, this worked really well for my business trip. I've slept in worse hostels for more money, and here I had a clean, tidy room of my own. The value for the price is fantastic. Credit to the owners.

It has the feel of a local pub, and it's a lovely place to stay for a short visit or a longer one. The building is lovely too, and it's nice to see its history being kept. I'd highly recommend it.
