Park House Hotel

We came back from a birthday stay and were lucky to get upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking the garden. Everyone was friendly, helpful, courteous, and always smiling. Dinner was especially full of lovely flavours, and breakfast was really good too. Compliments to the chef and staff. Park House is in lovely surroundings and would make a relaxing break. Thank you, we’d definitely recommend it.

Breakfast was a highlight, with a small, good-quality buffet plus an à la carte menu included in the price. The rooms were lovely and very clean, and the staff were friendly and professional, making the stay a pleasure. It’s a charming countryside estate in a great location, with decent value for money. Dinner was disappointing. At £50 per person for two courses, I expected more. The menu sounded refined, but the food was bland and lacked depth. It seemed to aim for fine dining without getting the basics of technique and taste right, so I’d skip dinner. The wellness area was pleasant, though not state-of-the-art. The saunas are in the separate male and female changing rooms, with no shared sauna area. There’s no quiet relaxation space either, and only a limited number of sunbeds by the pool. There’s also a golf course on-site, which we didn’t try because of the season. It might be a nice extra in the warmer months.

Food was solid, though not fabulous, and the spa break was good value. This is a favourite little country house hotel, with an excellent spa and a small outdoor pool. It was open but unheated in October, around 16 degrees perhaps, so really suited to cold water swimmers. The massage was excellent.

We had a splendid stay, with tennis courts and croquet as well as golf. The golf was free to use whenever you wanted, and my husband played the course twice a day. The hotel is beautiful, the service excellent, and the staff friendly. During these hot days, the outdoor pool was wonderful to sit beside, with its cafe/bar. The bar was fabulous. The spa massage was okay. Breakfast was good, but the room service sandwich and dinner were poor.
