Travelodge Berwick upon Tweed Hotel

This is the sort of no-frills budget hotel I expect from a Travelodge, and I would return. I gave it 3 stars because the rooms feel a little pricey for what you get, although the prices are still favourable compared with other accommodation in the area. There is no onsite bar, but KFC, McDonald's, Greggs and Morrisons are nearby, and the town centre is about a 15-minute walk. I barely saw staff apart from check-in, and the car park had discarded rubbish that made it look scruffy. The rooms are basic and a bit worn in places, though it looks like a refurb may be imminent. Cleaning was okay but could be better. The robot vacuums don't pick anything up and seem a waste of time. Room size is reasonable. There's no air con, but the windows open, which I prefer to being stuck in an airless box. The small electric wall heater kept resetting to 22°C, though I don't think it ever got the room that warm, and I didn't want it to. I suspect the rooms might be chilly in winter. If you're downstairs at the back, kids may run around, look through and knock on your window. When I was there, there were no net curtains on those windows, only on the ground-floor windows at the front. Rooms near the ground-floor entrance get more foot traffic noise. The quietest ones are at the end of the corridor, especially upstairs. You can pay extra to choose a room. That charge seems to have gone from £3.50 per stay when it was introduced last year to £3.50 per day this year. One other thing: if you book a flexible rate and pay to reserve a room, then cancel and rebook after the rate drops, trying to reserve the same room you cancelled costs twice as much. That felt very cheeky.

A very clean and handy halfway stop for our trip to Northern Scotland. The staff were friendly, and we'd stay again.

The place was quiet despite its location, and the rooms were clean and comfortable, though a bit tired. It's in a great spot. We didn't really see anyone, so I can't say much about the service. We'll definitely stay again.

The reception was closed, the TV was small, and the bath was tiny. You only get 30 minutes of free WiFi. Shocking. Don't come here, people!
