The Welch Gate Guest House

After lunch in Bewdley, we’d been walking along the River Severn for ages and stopped at the Welch Gate for cappuccino and tea. The service was quick and it was a relaxed place to sit. A shame there weren’t any cakes available, unless you wanted to order a dessert from the menu.

The location is ideal for exploring the area, and we’ll be back to the Welch Gate. We stayed over the weekend and the lovely couple running it made us feel special and really looked after us. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and breakfast was wonderful.

We were both disappointed by how this worked out. I booked the Welchgate for myself and fishing friends on 21/8/2021, but I fell ill early on 23/8/2021 and a friend took me home. We had each paid £480 for B&B and had only been there two days. We thought the proprietors, Steve and his wife, might refund some of the cost given how short our stay was, but they didn’t, and we lost it all. It goes to show you can misjudge people, even when they keep a clean, comfortable guest house. Still, I hope you both stay safe and well in 2022.

The food is nicely prepared and reasonably priced. This family-run B&B also has spotless rooms finished to a very high standard, with really comfortable beds.
