The house and rooms were nicer than some people have suggested, which makes the hostility from this woman such a shame. There are lots of rules, supposedly for guests' comfort, but she thought going up and down the stairs four or five times in the evening was preferable to letting me take a jug of water upstairs. I'm type 1 diabetic, and drinking enough matters for my kidneys; I'd been in hospital a few weeks earlier, and this was meant to be a relaxing trip. After I left my review, my husband got three calls from a withheld number between 4am and 5am. We're sure it was the owners or manager trying to disrupt our stay. The owner's reply saying my husband was falling about drunk is untrue. He tripped at the front door, but wasn't drunk, and I had tripped at the exact same spot earlier. That evening, after a lovely night out, I was sober and took a jug of water because I'm diabetic. A lady rushed through the kitchen to say it was for the whole house. I handed it back because I hate confrontation, so I ended up drinking warm tap water to stay hydrated. My husband had had a few drinks and hadn't realised I needed water. Such a basic thing. Water is such a basic right in our country!

The bathroom was tiny, very dirty, and had a low shower. The worst part, though, was the self-proclaimed “owner”. We arrived at night with bags, and the steep stairs and old synthetic wood floor made noise no matter how careful we were. She came out of a room, not to welcome us, but to complain about the noise, say she was the owner, and tell us to leave if we didn't like it. It was an embarrassing situation caused by someone so unprepared for dealing with guests. No guest should have to experience that.

We were in the area for a bowls tournament and had a basic, spacious room with three single beds. It was clean and quiet, and affordable. I’m disabled, so the ground-floor room and walk-in shower worked well for me, though there were a couple of steps at the entrance. Parking is limited to a small area. Breakfast was self-service: cereal, toast, yogurt, some fruit, tea and coffee. There’s a good pub opposite, and surprisingly, it wasn’t too noisy on Saturday night.

The beds were old and tired, though the bedding was clean. The rooms were very basic, and breakfast was cereal or toast. Nobody was there to top up the food, and there were no washing-up facilities or clean cups. One guest ended up making coffee in a glass.

The rooms were really nice, and breakfast was available, but the checkout time was extremely early. When I said we were five minutes late, the host barged into our room and told us to get out. The hospitality was really poor. What about privacy? The kitchen had neither a sink nor a stove or hob, so we had to take dishes to our room to wash them and couldn't cook or heat prepared food.
