Winterbourne House was practically on the doorstep, which was ideal since we were attending an event there. We also slept brilliantly in the enormous, cosy, very comfortable bed. The room was spacious, spotless and had thoughtful extras like fruit, chocolates and robes. The reception team were friendly and professional from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was excellent too. Even with a busy restaurant, it was organised, the food was hot, and all the choices were kept stocked. A lovely stay, and we'd gladly return.
We chose to eat in the hotel on the second night because the restaurant in Birmingham's jewellery area had been a bit of a gamble. The food there was okay and the atmosphere lovely, but the staff lacked basic courtesy. At the hotel, the service had already been so good that we felt more confident eating there. Tori's special soda mix was really nice, and we tried one of the dishes she'd suggested. The pan-seared scallops were delicious and well presented, as were the marinated olives with Melba toast and baba ghanoush. The teriyaki salmon was decent, though I'm not a teriyaki fan and it was the only seafood dish, since I don't eat meat. Garlic butter and Parmesan broccoli was delicious too. The hotel looks modern, was clean and quiet, and is well located, about a 15-minute walk from University train station, two quick stops from New Street. The first night was a bit noisy on a busy weekend because the doors didn't block sound, but Nisha at the front desk, Tori in the restaurant and the cleaners we met were all delightful. Service was spot on, I'd give it seven stars if Google allowed that.
Noise from a venue outside the hotel's control meant we couldn't settle in our room, so staff arranged a move and we had a beautifully quiet night. The rooms, restaurant and bar were all very clean, and the staff were wonderful, helpful and kind throughout.
The location beside the University works well, with good public transport connections. The property is well cared for, thoughtfully designed, and clearly pays attention to sustainability. I've stayed three nights on this recent Birmingham trip. It's my fourth visit to Edgbaston Park Hotel, and it remains my first choice in town. Another comfortable, dependable stay, and I always look forward to returning.
The reception team were very helpful, and the location is good, though driving there isn't ideal. The rooms were really nice, but young students shouted outside the windows in the middle of the night. Bar food was okay, but the service wasn't: it took ages to sort out an order of sparkling water, soup and sweet potato fries. A young waiter charged me for the sparkling water, which should have been free. I don't mind paying when the service is good, but it wasn't, and the prices don't match the quality or service. The company conference dinner was disappointing too. The food didn't meet the standard they offered, and the staff didn't seem properly trained. This place could be much better with more staff training and some menu changes.
