The beds were comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the rooms clean. Sometimes I find water left in the kettle when I arrive, as if it wasn’t cleaned out, but it’s a small thing. If I want tea, I can always get one at the nearby Macdonald's. A nice hotel for a budget stay, and I’d recommend it.

The builders were chatting just outside our windows while the scaffolding came down. We were there for a couple of nights and it looked like renovations on both the outside and inside had only just wrapped up. Not ideal for our stay, but the next guests will basically get a new hotel. Credit to the carpet layer, and I hope people keep it nice.

The smell of rubbish by reception and the lifts was disgusting, and the room had a faulty window that did nothing to block the outside noise. Trucks woke us around 3am, then workers with power tools started up right outside at 8am on Sunday. We barely slept, and it ruined our weekend. I complained politely at reception, but the staff were rude, dismissive and argumentative. They blamed me for not calling at 2-3am to ask for a room change instead of showing any empathy or trying to sort things out. After I made a formal complaint and asked for a refund, all they offered was a free late checkout voucher for a future booking. After such an unacceptable stay, that felt like asking me to spend more money there. Poor room conditions, no accountability and awful customer service. I won’t return to Travelodge Birmingham Central Moor Street.

The room was basic but had what I needed, and it was clean and comfortable, apart from a slight smell in the bathroom. I was on a higher floor, but on the street side I could hear traffic and people through the night. Breakfast came in a box to take away. Still a pleasant, comfortable stay.

The value was very poor for £138 over three nights, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. My street-facing room was extremely noisy, with shouting through the night and lots of people who looked suspicious to me, as well as people experiencing homelessness. I wasn’t given shower gel or shampoo at any point during the stay. WiFi was free for just 30 minutes a day, and housekeeping wouldn’t clean the room unless I stayed more than six nights.
